First time at a KTV in Singapore — how it works and what it costs

Nightlife KTVs in Singapore don’t price the way family karaoke does. There is usually no hourly room rate. Instead, each room carries a minimum drink order — counted in beer towers and bottles — and the room is yours for the session.

The pricing model in one paragraph

A small room for two or three people typically requires one beer tower (roughly $40–100 depending on the venue and district). Bigger rooms require more: a VIP room for ten might carry a minimum of eight towers and three bottles. You are not paying rent for the room; you are committing to a bar tab.

What the numbers actually look like

• Beer towers run about $40 at the cheapest rooms we track to $150 at premium lounges. Most sit between $68 and $99.
• Bottles (Martell VSOP is the default order) run $180–300 at most rooms.
• Hostess tips, where applicable, are charged per session: commonly $50 during happy hour and $100 at night. This is a separate line on your bill, not included in drink prices.
• Typical spend at a mid-range room lists at roughly $150–260 per person for a full night, drinks and tips included.

Happy hour is the real discount

Most rooms open mid-afternoon and run happy hour until 7–10pm. Minimums and tips are meaningfully lower before the evening switch — if your group can start at 6pm instead of 9pm, the same night costs a third less.

Etiquette, briefly

Book ahead on Fridays and Saturdays — walk-ins get the leftover rooms. Confirm the minimum for your group size when you book, not when the bill arrives. If a hostess joins your room, the tip is expected and per session; if you don’t want hosting, say so when booking and pick a venue where that’s normal.
